This website was created to share relatively advanced concepts in the fields of healthcare information technology (HIT) and clinical informatics, including electronic health records, health information exchange, codified terminologies, data integrity, analytics, predictive modeling, accountable care, clinical decision support, Meaningful Use, interoperability and related topics.
Dr. Michael Stearns has been deeply involved with terminology projects since 1997. He provided clinical domain expertise at the National Library of Medicine and the National Cancer Institute, before being recruited to manage the formation of SNOMED CT.
Clinical terminology has never been more important as the majority of healthcare data being generated today has little or no value. The implementation of standards has the potential to improve the integrity and value of clinical data. This website will focus on the role of clinical terminologies such as SNOMED CT and ICD-11.
